FIAMMA the red fox

I am again developing new designs with the 'no joints' concept. This time it is a red fox. At 18 inches, she is quite a big girl, my biggest creation yet.
I have used a gorgeous golden orange faux fur which screamed "turn me into a fox!". I am over the moon with the result. I feel the long hours I spent on the details have made the difference: Apoxie sculpted claws and paw pads, Fimo nose, hand painted glass eyes and patient scissor sculpting....plus, shading and painting with acrylics and oils.
She has a wire frame which goes all the way to the limbs. I like that you can arrange her legs in very realistic poses.
Here she is, please meet Fiamma. Fiamma is the Italian word for flame, and given her colours, I thought it the perfect name.

MINA a calico Norwegian forest cat

Calico cats have such special colouring, I was always fascinated by it. As I can't seem to stop creating cats lately, I decided it was time to try my own rendering of a calico lady cat.
I am really very pleased with the result. I have also tried a new way of doing paw pads in a realistic style, sculpting them out of Apoxie clay.
And here is dear Mina.

SPELL

I have another owl up for adoption. I am really having fun creating these interesting birds. This is a perfect example of how the same (almost) design can produce such different results, depending on the fur you choose, the eye colour and other detailing.
My first owl , Shadow, was made with longish grey faux fur. I gave him black eyes.
This time I chose a tipped mohair in shades of brown. His eyes are amber glass that I hand painted with realistic detailing. And here is Spell, a completely different owl. I am very proud of him.

SHADOW the owl

After working for quite some time on bears only, I just needed a new design to give me enthusiasm and energy. I have been meaning to create an owl for several months now. My greatest damper was that I was not sure about his legs-feet. I thought I might use Fimo and the technique I have used for my penguins.

That didn't seem totally right, as I wanted to have feet with a furry upper part well blended with the bare part.
I have been working with Epoxy clay lately. That is an interesting alternative, as you do not bake it, and it sticks very firmly to almost any surface. I find it not as nice and easy to work with as Fimo. At the beginning it is a bit too sticky and not firm enough. You have to wait a bit, until it is nice to work with, but you cannot wait too long as it hardens and then it is set. It needs practice. The result...well, the result was well worth the effort. I was finally able to do exactly what I had in mind: legs with a furry upper part, and bare realistic feet with claws. I am a happy lady.

NUTMEG the squirrel

Squirrels are such cute creatures I think. I love red squirrels, their rich colours and their fluffy tail, their funny curious expression.

It took me a while to decide which fabric was the most suited for this project. In the end I chose two fabrics, one for the rich fluffy tail (a very nice Schulte faux fur), and a wonderful short orange reddish alpaca. In the end I also added some subtle brown shading to the body to give it a deeper and richer colour. It is really nice and warm I think.

SILVER - a young raccoon

This is Silver, another raccoon. I love doing raccoons, and every time I make one, he comes out with his own personality! This is a real dreamer, I just wouldn't know how else to describe him!
